CRNA: state has NOT opted out of the CMS Medicare physician-supervision requirement; physician supervision is required for CRNA anesthesia services under Medicare. State scope may differ.

Prescriptive Authority: Per WV Code 30-7-15, a CRNA orders/administers anesthetics only in cooperation with a physician, dentist, or podiatrist who directs the care; 30-7-15(c) states a CRNA does not have independent practice authority.

Note: As of January 1, 2025, entry-level nurse anesthetist programs must be doctoral (DNP or DNAP). CRNAs educated prior to this date with an MSN remain eligible.
