Privacy Policy | Nurse License Guide

This Privacy Policy explains how The License Guide LLC, a Washington limited liability company doing business as the License Guide Network (“we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and discloses personal information through Nurse License Guide (nurselicenseguide.com), the other License Guide Network websites that link to this policy, and our data API (together, the “Services”).

In short: we publish free licensing information. We don’t sell personal information, we don’t run ads, and we honor Global Privacy Control. We use analytics to understand how the Services are used, and you can turn that off.

Information we collect

Information you give us

Newsletter and email sign-ups: your email address and, if you provide them, your name, state, and license type.
Contact, partnership, and API inquiries: your name, email address, and message, plus any optional details you choose to add, such as phone number, company, job title, organization size, and website.
Program information requests: if you ask to be contacted about a specific school’s program, your name, email address, phone number, ZIP code, education level, and intended start date.
API accounts: your contact details and an API key we issue to you. We count your API requests to enforce usage limits.

Some tools, such as checklists and continuing-education trackers, save what you enter only in your own browser’s storage. That information stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Information collected automatically

Analytics: pages viewed, referring page, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and similar usage information, collected through cookies and scripts from Google Analytics, Ahrefs Web Analytics, and Microsoft Clarity, unless you opt out.
Session recordings and heatmaps: Microsoft Clarity records how you interact with pages, such as clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement, so we can find confusing or broken pages. Clarity masks text typed into form fields.
Server and security logs: our hosting and security provider processes your IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, and referrer to deliver pages, block abuse, and rate-limit automated traffic.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, such as health information, Social Security numbers, or precise geolocation. Please don’t send it to us.

How we use information

To provide, maintain, and improve the Services, and to fix errors in our data.
To send newsletters and updates you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
To respond to your inquiries and provide API access you request.
To pass program information requests to the school you chose (see below).
To understand how the Services are used, in aggregate.
To protect the Services, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with the law.

How we disclose information

Service providers that process information for us under contract: Vercel (hosting, security, and server logs), Google (Google Analytics), Ahrefs (web analytics), Microsoft (Microsoft Clarity), and Resend (email delivery and mailing lists). Microsoft may also use Clarity data under its own terms, including to improve its products and services.
Schools you ask to hear from. When you submit a program information request for a school that participates in our partner program, we send your request to that school so it can contact you. We do this only at your direction, and the school handles your information under its own privacy policy. Partner schools pay us for placement and inquiries.
Legal and safety reasons: when required by law or legal process, or to protect our rights, users, or others.
Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Some pages include affiliate links to exam-prep and education providers. If you click one, that provider may learn you came from our site and may pay us a commission. We don’t send them your personal information.

Sale and sharing of personal information

We do not sell personal information for money, and we have not done so in the past 12 months. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising, and we tell Google and Microsoft not to use our analytics data for advertising or ad personalization. Some state privacy laws define “sale” or “sharing” broadly enough that analytics cookies from third parties could qualify, so we let everyone opt out of them.

Cookies, analytics, and your choices

We use analytics cookies and scripts from Google Analytics, Ahrefs, and Microsoft Clarity, plus your browser’s local storage to remember your cookie choice. We do not use advertising cookies.

Your Privacy Choices: use the “Your Privacy Choices” link in the site footer, or “Decline” in the cookie banner, to turn off analytics. When you opt out, we stop loading Google Analytics, Ahrefs, and Microsoft Clarity, and remove their cookies. Your choice is saved in your browser, so you’ll need to make it again on another browser or device, or if you clear your browser data.
Global Privacy Control (GPC): if your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and analytics are turned off automatically. Opening “Your Privacy Choices” will confirm that your signal is being honored.
Do Not Track: there is no common standard for browser “Do Not Track” signals, so we don’t respond to them. We do honor GPC.
Other third-party tracking: we don’t allow third parties to collect information about your activity across other websites through the Services, except as described above for Google Analytics, Ahrefs, and Microsoft Clarity.

How long we keep information

Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your address.
Inquiries and program information requests: as long as needed to respond, and up to 24 months afterward for our records, unless the law requires longer.
API account records: for the life of your account and up to 24 months afterward.
API usage counters: 24 hours.
Google Analytics data: no longer than 14 months. Ahrefs, Microsoft Clarity, and Vercel keep analytics, recording, and log data for limited periods under their own retention practices.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia, you may have the right to:

know or access the personal information we hold about you, and get a portable copy;
correct inaccurate personal information;
delete personal information;
opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and targeted advertising;
not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

We honor these requests from all U.S. residents, whether or not a law in your state requires it. To make a request, email info@thelicenseguide.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We’ll verify your request by confirming you control the email address involved, and we may ask for more information if needed. An authorized agent may submit a request for you with your signed permission. We respond within 45 days, and will tell you if we need more time as the law allows.

Appeals: if we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision or emailing info@thelicenseguide.com with the subject line “Privacy Appeal.” We’ll respond within the time your state’s law requires. If you’re not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.

Children’s privacy

The Services are intended for adults researching professional licenses. They are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact info@thelicenseguide.com and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, access controls on our accounts, and a web application firewall. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Visitors outside the United States

The Services are operated from, and intended for people in, the United States. Information is processed and stored in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on our legitimate interests in understanding how the Services are used and in answering requests you send us, and you can object to analytics at any time by opting out as described above. You can exercise the rights listed above, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Third-party websites

The Services link to state licensing boards, schools, exam providers, and other websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least once a year. If we make changes, we’ll update the effective date above, and for material changes we’ll post a notice on the Services or email newsletter subscribers before the change takes effect.
